On January 20, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies were notified by a Sun Valley Police Dept. officer that a SVPD patrol vehicle had been in a collision with another vehicle on State Highway 75 at Elkhorn Rd.
Both vehicles were traveling north on Hwy 75. The SVPD Officer reported that the driver of a white 2019 Ford Econoline van appeared intoxicated, had drifted into his lane, and collided with his patrol vehicle. Neither of the drivers was injured but the patrol vehicle sustained moderate damages.
Based upon signs of impairment and drug paraphernalia, Blaine County Sheriff’s Drug Recognition Expert was brought in for an assessment. Jeremy Ryan Hellmann, age 44 of Picabo, Idaho, was arrested for misdemeanor Driving Under the Influence (Drugs), I.C. 18-8004(1)(D), misdemeanor Possession of Paraphernalia, I.C. 37-2734A(1), and two counts of felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, I.C. 37-2732(C)1.
Hellman was arraigned in Magistrate Court on Monday afternoon where a $5,000 bond was ordered by Judge Haemmerle. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for February 7, 2023.
